Lymphoid System Flashcards
Where is lymph/tissue fluid checked by APCs?
In the lymph nodes
What is the secondary lymphoid system?
Consists of ‘matching venues’, which are exposed surfaces lined with APCs
What happens in the cortex zone of lymph nodes?
B-cells proliferate and mature
What happens in the paracortex zone of lymph nodes?
. T-cells activated and proliferate
. Paracortex contains majority of APCs in the lymph node
What can be found in the medulla of lymph nodes?
Lots of plasma cells and macrophages
Where is the B/T-cell interface?
Between the cortex (B-cells) and paracortex (T-cells)
What are germinal centres?
Where B-cells proliferate to produce plasma cells and mutate their antibody genes to switch class to bind to the pathogenic antigen
Where are the cortex, paracortex, and medulla?
Cortex is outer layer, paracortex is inner layer, medulla is core area
