Lymphatics, Mammary Gland Flashcards
What are the primary functions of the lymphatic vascular system?
Clear interstitial spaces of lymph (tissue fluid) and substances (food lipids) that can be reabsorbed
2. Function as part of the immune system by monitoring invading organisms
Where does lymph reenter venous flow?
Left and right subclavian and internal jugular veins.
Where does lymph drain to before entering venous flow?
Thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct
What quadrant of the body does the right lymphatic duct drain?
Upper Right quadrant (ending at ribs)
What quadrant does the thoracic duct drain?
Two left quadrants and lower right quadrant
What two organs are most associated with the lymphatic vascular system?
Thymus and Spleen, also aggregates of lymphatic tissue
T or F lymph must pass through at least one lymph node cluster before reentering the circulatory system.
T
T or F lymph does not have a similar composition to the surrounding interstitial fluid of the tissue region.
F
Afferent Lymphatics
lymphatics moving lymph into a cluster of lymph nodes
Efferent Lymphatics
Lymphatics draining lymph nodes
What is the importance of the lymph system as it relates to the mammary glad?
Its important in the spread of breast cancer
