lymphatics Flashcards
physiology of lymphatics
Moves a watery fluid called lymph from tissues to the bloodstream, helping to maintain fluid balance and defend against infection
Includes disease-fighting cells called lymphocytes
Lymph travels through lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, and collecting ducts before cycling back through the body
effects of lymphatic drainage
Alleviate edema and lymphedema, and other inflammatory conditions.
Enhance the function of the lymphatic system
Boost immunity.
Provide relief from chronic pain.
Combat fatigue and restore energy.
Improve the function of joints.
Decrease the time for postoperative healing.
Reduce swelling.
pathophysiology
Poorly functioning lymphatic systems
is congestion or odema from the
build-up of interstitial fluids.
Odema – too much fluid getting in or
not enough getting out.
Peripheral Oedema
