Lymph capillaries
Tubes that reach into the interstitial spaces of most body tissues.
Lymph vessels
Prevent back flow of the lymph.
Lymph nodes
Lie along the lymph vessels. Filter bacteria from the lymph trunks. They produce lymphocytes.
Tonsils
Masses of lymph tissue that are exposed to the outside. Filter tissue fluid not lymph.
Spleen
Behind the stomach, filters microrganisms and waste from the blood.
Thymus
In front of the aorta. It is lymphatic tissue that stores lymphocytes.
Cisterna Chyli
Stores purified lymph before it empties into the blood.
Thoracic duct
Common trunk of all lymphatic vessels in the body.
Right lymphatic duct
Vessel that carries lymph from the right side of the body.
Antigen
Foreign body
Antibodies
Attack the antigen.
Phagocyte
Circulate through the body and ingest dead cells.
Active Immunity
Protection that occurs when a body produces its own antibodies.
Passive immunity
Protection that occurs when a body receives antibodies from another source.
