Lymphatic Pathways Flashcards
Describe the basic pathway from the LEs to the (L) venous angle.
ventromedial and dorsolateral bundles of the lower leg – popliteal lymph nodes – inguinal lymph nodes – dive under inguinal ligament to pelvic lymph nodes – lumbar lymph nodes – lumbar trunk – converges with GI trunk – cysterna chyli – thoracic duct – (L) venous angle
Describe the basic pathway of lymph drainage from the medial RUE to the (R) venous angle.
ulnar, radial, descending and mesothenar lnn – median, radial, ulnar forearm bundles – bottleneck at the antecubital fossa – medial upper arm territory – axillary lymph nodes – subclavian trunk – (R) venous angle
Describe the basic pathway of lymph drainage from the lateral RUE to the (R) venous angle.
ulnar, radial, descending and mesothenar lnn – median, radial, ulnar forearm bundles – bottleneck at the antecubital fossa – lateral upper arm bundle and shoulder territory (in 16% of population) – axillary and supraclavicular lymph nodes – subclavian and supraclavicular trunk – (R) venous angle
Describe the basic pathway of lymph drainage from the central portion of the lower lip; chin and cheek.
submental lnn – internal jugular lnn – jugular trunk – venous angle
Describe the basic pathway from the medial portion of the lower eyelid, cheek, nose, upper and lower lip, and lateral chin, to the VA.
submandibular lnn – internal jugular lnn – jugular trunk – VA
Describe the basic pathway of the tempoparietal area of the scalp, forehead, upper eyelid, lateral part of lower eyelid, and anterior auricle to the VA.
parotid lnn – internal jugular lnn – jugular trunk – VA
Describe the basic pathway of the partietal portion of scalp, and posterior auricle to the VA.
posterior auricular lnn – internal jugular and accessory lnn – venous angle
Describe the basic pathway from the occipital portion of the scalp, and upper part of the neck, to the VA.
occipital lnn – accessory lnn – venous angle
What do the supraclavicular lnn drain?
Receives lymph from accessory and intercostal lnn, skin of anterolateral neck, portions of lateral upper arm, portions of mammary gland
Describe the basic pathway from the supraclavicular lnn to the VA.
supraclavicular trunk – venous angle
Describe the pathway from the axillary lnn to the VA.
axillary lnn – subclavian trunk – venous angle
Describe the basic pathway from the inguinal lnn to the VA.
inguinal lnn – pelvic lnn – lumbar lnn – lumbar trunk – cisterna chyli – thoracic duct – venous angle
