Q
Briefly describe lymphadenopathy
A
Chronic or excessive lymph node enlargement
Large no’s of bacteria or other potential pathogens can overwhelm a lymph node, causing it to become swollen, inflamed and tender to touch.
Infected lymph nodes are called buboes.
Lymph node may also develop into a secondary cancer site. This often occurs metastasis of cancer cells occurs into lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes infiltrated by cancer cells are usually not painful and only feel swollen
This assists in identification of cancerous lymph nodes rather than infected ones.
