Lymphadenopathy/itis causing Microbes Flashcards
Yersinia Enterocolitica
orally Ingested; penetrates intestinal mucosa; GNR; Facultative intracellular; survives in Macs; Generalized lymphadenopathy (mesenteric);
Staph. Aureus
Autoinfection (from skin, nares) at wounds; GPC; direct infection of LN, Node will be large warm tender w/ surrounding edema/erythema
Strep Pyogenes
Human throat, skin (can infect wound); GPC; direct infection of LN; similar LN symptoms to s. aureus
Mycobacterium Tuberculosis
Acid-Fast Bacillus; spread by aerosols/inhalation ; facultative intracellular pathogen; survives in macs (disseminates); lymphadenitis
Cytomegalovirus
human Herpes Virus (enveloped DNA virus); spread via bodily fluids; causes mononucleosis type disease; generalized lymphadenopathy; oral
EBV infection
Mononucleosis; spread by saliva; Herpes virus (enveloped DNA); atypical looking lymphocytes; generalized lymphadenopathy; oral
Toxoplasma Gondii
orally ingested protozoan; can be dormant for years; particularly bad for immunocompromised pts.; lymphadenopathy (cervical, but can be generalized)
Brucella
oral ingestion; Brucellosis; GNR; facultative intracellular pathogen; generalized lymphadenopathy
Bartonella Hensiaie
Cat scratch disease (also from flea bite); GNR; facultative intracellular pathogen; generalized lymphadenopathy; painful nodes 5-10 days post bite/scratch
Yersinia Pestis
Plague; GNR; facultative intracellular pathogen; lives in macs (dissemination); generalized lymphadenopathy; parenteral
Salmonella enterica
oral ingestion; GNR; facultative intracellular (macs); generalized lymphadenopathy
Francisella tularensis
Rabbit fever (common in hunters); GNR; facultative intracellular (macs); generalized lymphadenopathy
