Lymph system Flashcards
What are lymph capillaries called in intestines?
Lacteals
What are the lymphoid cells?
- Lymphocytes
- Macrophages
- Dendritic Cells
- Reticular cells
What are the two types of lymphocytes
T cells are soldiers, B cells can differentiate
What divides lymph nodes into sections?
Trabeculae
What are the two components of the spleen?
Red pulp = macrophages engulfing RBCs
White pulp = WBC area
What structure teaches immunocompetence to the WBCs?
The thymus
What is MALT?
They are appendix/tonsils/peyer’s patches/nodules that are in strategic locations
What is leukocytosis?
The proliferation of WBCs
What are the 3 types of granulocytes?
- Neutrophils are hydrolytic enzymes and phagocytes
- Eosinophils are 2 lobes, and modulate immune response to allergies
- Basophils make vessels leaky and contain histamines
What are the two types of Agranulocytes?
- lymphocytes (T cells and B cells)
- Monocytes ( chronic infections/viruses)
What are the two classifications of leukemia?
Acute is the cancer of a cell blast and chronic is after development cancer of the WBCs
What causes mononucleosis (enlarged lymphocytes) (MONO)
Epstein Barr virus
What is leukopenia?
Low WBC count
