Lymph Flashcards
How does tissue fluid form?
Cells in the capillary walls do not fit perfectly together.Plasma and white blood cells leak out and form tissue fluid
Why don’t red blood cells leave from the gaps in the capillary walls?
They are too big and don’t change their shape very much
What is the function of tissue fluid?
It surrounds all cells of the body. It supplies cells with oxygen, nutrients and other things they need to survive. They remove waste products such as carbon dioxide
How does tissue fluid return back to the blood?
It diffuses into lymphatic capillaries and is now known as lymph. It goes into the subclavian veins.
How is blood in the lymphatic system kept moving in the right direction?
Valves
Why do many lymph vessels run close to muscles?
When the muscles contract they squeeze inwards on the lymph and force it to move along the vessels
