A

Swelling which results from the occumulation of interstitial fluid as a consequence of lymphatic failure

Pathophysiology of lymphodema

A

Albumin, cellular debris and bacteria which are usually filtered from capillaries and removed by lymph instead stagnate

  • > granulation and fibrous organisation
  • > recurrent cellulitis

Primary lymphodema

A
Poorly understood, usually FH
Congenital or fibrotic
Females
Insidious onset
Unilateral 
Commonly foot and ankle
Gradually increases
Healthy skin initially
