A

New sea wall and promenade built east of the river lym’s mouth. 2003-2004 a £1.4 million emergency project stabilised the cliffs

A

£22 million project. New sea walls, promenade and sand and shingle beach to absorb wave energy. Rock amour at the cobb

A

Not undertaken. Decided to leave this stretch of coast alone as the costs outweighed benefits

Phase 4 (2013-2014)?

A

£19.5 million new 390m sea wall built in front of the existing one for added protection and extensive cliff stabilisation was carried out to safeguard 480 homes

A

New beaches have increased visitor numbers and sea front businesses are thriving
Harbour is now better protected, benefitting boat owners and fishermen
New defences have stood up to recent stormy winters

Negatives of management scheme ?

A

Increased visitor numbers led to conflicts with some local people who think traffic congestion and litter have increased
Some people think that new defences have spoilt the natural coastal landscape
New sea wall may interfere with coastal processes and affect neighbouring stretches of coastline causing problems elsewhere
Expensive scheme.
