LVO Flashcards
When does LVO comes in effect?
When weather conditions fall below CAT 1 minima, 550m
How is TAKE OFF defined as LVO?
When RVR falls below 400m.
What does the RWY require as minimum during Take-OFF?
Minimum level of Markings and lighting for a given RVR.
What type of auto brake is recommended?
Medium
What is the required visual reference at DH for CAT 2?
Any runway horizontal and lateral lights.
What is the minimum RVR and DH for CAT II?
Minimum RVR of 300m and 100ft DH
What is approach ban?
When you have started the approach, the crew can fly to 1000ft AAL even if the required RVR falls below limit.
What is ILS receiver failure?
If the aircraft receiver fails, the PFD will show a red warning flag, autopilot will disengage and the aircraft will revert to heading vertical speed.
What is alert height?
Height above runway based on the characteristics of the aeroplane and it’s fail operational landing system above which a CAT III approach would be discountinued and missed approach initiated if a failure occurred in one of the redundant parts of the automatic landing system or relevant ground equipment system.
What is the alert height on Airbus?
100ft
What is the visual references on DH?
For CAT II and CAT IIIA: May not continue the approach if no visual references of not less than a three segment of the centerline of the approach lights or runway center lights or touchdown zone lights or runway edge lights are obtained.
What if we get reducancy of the aircraft system below alert height?
The approach should be continued except if RED auto land is triggered.
What is fail operational system?
If in the event of a failure below alert height, the approach, flare and landing can be completed by the remaining part of the automatic system.
In the event of a automatic landing system failure, the aircraft will operate as?
In the event of failure the automatic landing system will operate as a fail passive system.
What is fail passive system?
In case of failure, no significant out of trim condition or deviation of flight path or attitude but the landing is not completely automatically. The pilot assumes control of the aircraft after a failure.
What is concept of minima?
1. Airfield operating minima
2. Operator authorized minima
3. Crew minima
4. Aircraft minima
- Established in accordance with the airport authority and published on approach charts.
- Lowest minima that an operator is allowed to use at a specified airfield following an approval from its operational authority.
- Lowest minimum that the crew is authorized to operate depending on the crew qualification
- Lowest minima which have been demonstrated during aircraft certification. Indicated on the aircraft flight manual.
What do the crew need to check for each flight? 4 things.
Which value should they use?
- Aircraft capability minima
- The aerodrome operating minima
- The operators minima
- The crew minima.
They must use the highest value to determine the allowed operating minimum for their flight.
ATC procedures
When RVR falls below 550m when RVR or ceiling falls below 800m = low visibility procedures are introduced.
