What can to look for at rabbits nose?
Any wounds or discharge from the nose
What could wounds on the nose signify?
Fighting with their pen mate or something in their environment could cause harm
what actions would you take due to wounds on nose?
.Watch the behavior between pen mates and also check them for wounds. May have to separate them and attempt to re-bond them.
.Check their environment for anything that could pose a danger such as a broken rack. Remove/fix the danger and check other rabbit.
.Treat wound, give antibiotic orally or topically and dress the wound. keep an eye on healing process
What could discharge from the nose signify?
Snuffles
Other signs of snuffles?
Runny eyes, wet runny nose. Breathing issues such as wheezing.
Appetite would be reduced due to blocked nose
What actions would you take due to snuffles?
.Deep clean the rabbits environment and keeps the rabbits face clean
.Keep the rabbit warm, so bring outdoor rabbits inside and possibly provide heaters and more straw
.Check other rabbit for any signs due to snuffles being infectious
.Antibiotics will be given to treat the rabbit, plus good husbandry to help stop it spreading
What do you look for when checking a rabbits mouth?
Check to make sure the teeth aren’t overlined or misaligned. Any signs of drooling
What is it called when rabbits teeth are misaligned?
Malocclusion
Signs of Malocclusion?
Overgrown/misaligned teeth, drooling, difficulty eating, weight loss and jaw feels lumpy
Prevention of Malocclusion?
Providing the rabbits with chews to help wear the teeth naturally down.
Hay also helps wear the molars down due to how the rabbit chews it in a side to side motion.
Treatment of Malocclusion?
Teeth may have to be trimmed (Not clipped)
Placing more chews in environment or providing more hay.
Possible teeth removal
In extreme cases its best for rabbit to be euthanized
What to look for when checking rabbits eyes?
Discharge, redness, inflammation, non-responsive, cloudiness, any foreign objects
signs of conjunctivitis?
Redness
inflamed
Thick discharge
Reduced appetite
eyes appear teary
Treatment of conjuctivitis?
Antibiotics eye drops
Anti-inflammatory pain relief for eyse
bathing the eye
Prevention of conjunctivitis?
Keep rabbits teeth healthy as that can link to eye issues
Good husbandry, proper bedding to help prevent foreign objects in eye
