Lungs Flashcards
What should be considered in animals w/ chronic resp signs that do not respond to antibiotics and other symptomatic therapy?
Lung worms
Which lung worm can cause nodular lesions in airways?
Oslerus osleri (fka Filaroides osleri)
What conditions of the respiratory tract are NOT associated w/ nodular lesions in airways?
- Chronic bronchitis
- Tuberculosis
What is Pneumonyssoides caninum?
A nasal might of dogs
Does not live in lower airways
What is aelurostronglyus abstrusus?
Feline lungworm -cat appears to be the only definitive host
What is Eucoleus aerophilus (Capillaria aerophila)?
A primary parasite of the resp tract of the fox
- can also be seen in dogs/cats
- bronchial capillarid
What is Eucoleus boehmi?
- Nasal capillarid of dog
What is Filaroides hirthi?
- Canine lung worms
- lives threaded thru lung parenchyma of dogs and other canids
What is Filaroides osleri?
- Canine tracheal and bronchial nodular worm
- produces hemorrhagic or granular, wartlike nodules in trachea and bronchi
What is Crenosoma vulpis?
- fox bronchial worm
- causes mild catarrhal inflammation but no nodule formation
What is angiostrongylus vasorum?
- Parasite of foxes
- French heartworm
What is the site of infection of Ael. abstrusus?
Mature worms are found at the terminal parts of the bronchioles
What is the pathogenesis of Ael. abstrusus?
- gross lesions consist of grey nodules scattered over surface of lungs or arranged in clusters
- incised nodules release milky fluid containing eggs and larvae
What is the site of infection of Euc. boehmi?
They live threaded thru the mucosa of the nasal sinuses
What is the pathogenesis of Euc. boehmi?
Inflammation of the epithelia of the sinuses is caused by presence of worms ad eggs w/in the epi
