Lung Physiology 3 Flashcards

1
Q

% predicted

A

(FEV Measured/ FEV Predicted) x 100

(FVC Measured/ FVC Predicted) x 100

Ratio of measured or predicted: FEV/FVC

When the ratio between the FVC and FEV is low, suggests there is airway obstruction.
Typical of asthma

In this case the flow volume curve is typically scalloped- there is mid expiratory flow reduction. This is because its the little airways that are blocking with asthma
There’s a typical reduction in the flow when there is a out past the FEV

When there is a high ratio of FEV to FVC:

Instead this means the individual is restricted- has small restricted lungs
