What the definition of limited stage?

A

Tumor limited to the ipsilateral hemithorax and regional lymph nodes (although subclinical metastases are usually present)

What the definition of extensive stage?

A

Involvement of contralateral lymph nodes, malignant pericardial/pleural effusion, or distant metastases (as in this patient with liver and contralateral lung lesions)

A

Curative intent and usually receive concurrent platin-based chemotherapy and thoracic radiation; 5-year survival is ~20%.
