Lumbar Region Flashcards
Responsible for maintaining an erect porture located in vertebrae
Erector spinae muscles
Erector spinae composed 3 columns
Iliocostalis
Longissimus
Spinalis
Most lateral columb of the erector spinae muscles
Iliocostalis
Iliocostalis have 3 parts
Iliocostalis lumborum
Iliocostalis thoracis
Iliocostalis cervicis
Muscles located in intermediate position
Longissimus
These muscles assist in extension, lateral flexion, and rotation of the spine
Longissimus
The most medial group of the erector spinae
Spinalis
These muscles aid to extension and lateral flexion if the spine
Spinalis
Nerve supply of quadratus lumborum: This muscles is supplied by the lumbar plexus
This muscles is supplied by the lumbar plexus
Action of quadratus lumborum:
Fixes or depressed the 12th rib during respiration and laterally flexes the vertebral column to the same side
Arises below from the iliolumbar ligament the adjoining part of the iliac crest
Quadratus lumborum
Fibers run upward and medially inserted into the lower border of the 12th rib and transverse process of the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae
Quadratus lumborum
The fibers run downward and laterally and leave the abdomen to enter the thigh by passing behind the inguinal ligament
Psoas major
Action of psoas:
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint on the trunk or if the thigh is fixed, it flexes the trunk on the thigh
Fan shaped and arises from the upper part of the iliac fossa
Iliacus
