It meant that he wasn’t associated with Henry VII’s unpopular reforms
What did Wolsey’s rise to power coincide with ?
The retirement of many important figures such as the Archbishop of Canterbury- this meant many Pepsi rooms were vacant

He was academically gifted and Oxford

He was not unique in his intelligence and he was low class

Henry was in need of a young,ambitious advisor.

Bishop fox became too old to hold the Privy seal and so this position was also vacant.

Wolsey only was able to become quick chancellor because in 1515 chancellor warham resigned

He was noticed due to his intelligence despite it being regular

Other intelligent men weren’t as ambitious or opportunistic

He could almost control him in that Wolsey was willing to give up his beliefs to humour Henry and procure whatever he wanted

Eg : girls of cloth and gold and serious diplomatic ability. He successfully developed England into an influential force in Europe
Skill: his religious positions
You can’t become a cardinal or papal legate without ability and ambition.
Skill: length of time he was in power
Wolsey was in charge some way or another from 1513- 29 and so he couldn’t have remained this long without tremendous skill
Skill : range of abilities
He was skilled within multiple areas including financial, legal, and clerical matters.
