Bad luck. The fact of the matter is Bilbo is on a tree in a valley and the rolling hills make it appear like the forest goes on forever.
Gollum accepts Bilbo’s question: “What have I got in my pocket? “ as a riddle.
Good luck. Had Gollum not accepted this, he may have won the game and cost Bilbo his life.

Bilbo neglects to take care of himself, and narrowly escape the wood elves after having made sure the dwarves got out safely.
Good luck. If Bilbo left a few seconds later the wood elves would’ve heard the commotion and he would’ve been caught.
When the flying deer landed on the other side of the river after it was shot by Thorin (page 136 chapter 8)
Bad luck. the group was low on food, and the best possible meal to be had was now on the wrong side of the river.
