Females are bi-lateral, preferring to use both hemispheres equally, left and right for language and visual-spatial tasks.

What happens if there is brain damage (e.g. stroke) in a side of the hemisphere?

It would be detrimental to males rather than females, as in females the unaffected hemisphere may be able to take over from the damaged area.
