Level 1 Trauma alert
AIRWAY: Active airway assistance
CIRCULATION: No radial pulse with HR greater than 120 or SBP less than 90
electrical burn, 2 or 3 degree burn greater than 15% BSA
amputation proximal to wrist or ankle
penetrating injury to head,neck, torso
ADULT BLUE

AIRWAY: respiratory rate >30 CIRCULATION: HR>120 with radial and BP10ft CUTANEOUS: major degloving flap avulsion > 5 inches gun shot wound to extremities BMR: BMR=5 MOI: ejection from vehicle deformed wheel AGE: >55years
PEDI RED
Trauma alert
AIRWAY: assisted or intubated CONSCIOUSNESS: AMS paralysis suspected spinal cord injury loss of sensation CIRCULATION: weak or no palpable carotid or femoral systolic BP
PEDI BLUE
Trauma alert
CONSCIOUSNESS: amnesia or reliable history of LOC
CIRCULATION: carotid or femoral pulses palpable or systolic BP 90-50
FRACTURE: single closed longbone FX site
SIZE: red, purple
ADULT and PEDI
Level 2
falls >12ft adult falls >6ft pediatric extrication > 15 min rollover MVA death of an occupant major intrusion ejection from bicycle pedestrian struck by vehicle: adult
Death in the field
4 presumptive + 1 conclusive presumptive unresposivness apnea pulseless fixed dilated pupils conclusive injuries incompatible with life tissue decomposition rigor mortis liver mortis (contraindication: hypothermia, barbiturate overdose, electrocution)
Air Rescue
1 engine company and 1 rescue hose down LZ LZ 100'x100' no objects higher than 40' tail rotor guard full bunker gear do not use road flares ground transport > 20 min level 1, >30min level 2 extrication time > 20min
Stroke alert

Employee Assistance Program
EAP
Initial assessment and mental health referral to employees and dependents.
On call 24hrs a day
Preventive health programs- stress management, smoking/substance abuse, weight loss, parenting classes, and spouse support, financial, family crisis
Confidential- cannot be released inside or outside BSO
EAP Referral method (3):
Voluntary- employee voluntary approaches EAP
Command Recommended- supervisor should contact EAP for referral options
Command Directed Referral (2)- mandatory and not confidential on BSO time, hand deliver memo, up the COC
-Fitness for duty evaluations- due to emotional distress or substance abuse
-Command referral for treatment- when their conduct rises to a level that interferes with effective functioning on the job
Early Intervention Program
EIP
assist employees having displayed behaviors or tendencies consistent with job related stress
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team
CISD
assist employees involved in critical incidents
MCI, child related, assault of employee
Disciplinary guideline
Not all misconduct requires discipline. Nondisciplinary action may be more appropriate IE formal or informal counseling, remedial training.
Discipline
Is corrective not punitive
Counseling is predisciplinary
Counseling is not considered discipline
Disciplinary Action Recommended Report A-18
DAR will be used if discipline rather than counseling is recommended
