LT#3: Stoichiometry and Limiting Reactants Flashcards
1
Q
Define Stoichiometry
A
A mathematical method that chemists use to change information about one chemical in a reaction into information about any other chemical they are interested in.
2
Q
Define Mole Ratio
A
x Want / Have using coefficients from balanced chemical equation
3
Q
Define Limiting Reactant
A
The reactant that runs out first. When used up, the reaction stops.
4
Q
What are the steps to determine the Limiting Reactant?
A
- Write chemical equation if necessary
- Change amounts of both chemicals into moles (have to compare amount of particles)
- Convert both amounts into moles of the SAME chemical (so exactly the same unit).
- The original chemical that gives you the small number of moles is your limiting reactant.
