Main point questions
find the conclusion
Role of a statement
Locate statement and use keywords to characterize its function in the stimulus
Point at issue
Find the issue on which both speakers have an opinion and disagree
Method of argument
Paraphrase the argument into abstract terms. Look for patterns like analogies, examples, and elimination of alternatives.
Parallel Reasoning
Compare part, or all, of the stimulus to the choices, match conclusion types
Assumption
Bridge the gap between evidence and conclusion
Necessary Assumption
Bridge the gap between evidence and conclusion. What MUST be true, bare minimum
Sufficient Assumption
Bridge the gap between evidence and conclusion. What helps the evidence get to the conclusion. (E+____=Conclusion)
Flaw
Find the disconnects between evidence and the conclusion
Strengthen/Weaken
Find the answer that makes the conclusion more or less likely to follow from the evidence
Principle
Match all of the elements between the principle and the specifics. Apply the “rule” or law” then use the LR question type strategy it mimics
Inference
Determine what MUST be true. Look for connections
Paradox
Look for the answer that explains the mystery and makes the statements consistent
