a claim that expresses what the argue is trying to persuade us to accept, whether or not it actually is true
support
evidence/premises; the arguer provides these statement sin order to show us that the conclusion is true
What question does support answer?
“Why do you believe (the conclusion) to be true?”
subsidiary (intermediate) conclusion
a conclusion that supports a further conclusion; a clam that functions as both conclusion and support
background information
“sets the stage”; the context necessary for understanding the argument
