LQC - Final Theology Flashcards
How does the Gospel of Mark begin?
It begins with Jesus being identified as the Son of God and Jesus being baptized by John in the Jordan River.
Which Apostle did we say that the Gospel of Mark was associated with?
Peter
On what day during Passover does Mark say Jesus celebrates the Last Supper?
When the lambs are being sacrificed
We noted in class the way that Christian art connects the 4 Gospels to the 4 creatures who proclaim God’s glory before the Divine throne as they are depicted in Ezekiel and the book of Revelation. Which Gospel in art is represented by the bull?
Luke
At the end of the Gospel of Luke, the risen Christ appears to two disciples as they walk to the town of Emmaus. When do they recognize Jesus?
They recognize him in the breaking of the bread.
St. Paul thinks that the Last Supper was the ritual part of a covenantal sacrifice that instituted a new covenant.
True
St. Paul gets upset with the way the Corinthians celebrate “the Lord’s Supper.” Instead of celebrating the Lord’s Supper, they each bring their own meals and some are hungry and some get drunk. Why is St. Paul upset with the Corinthians?
St. Paul is upset because the Corinthians eat/celebrate “the Supper of the Lord” without discerning the body of the Lord.
This was the term that we said in class was one’s “primary vocation.” It is given in baptism by which every Christian participates in Christ’s mission as priest, prophet, and king.
Universal Call to Holiness
The word parable literally means what?
Comparison
St. Athanasius says that sin presents a kind of ‘Divine Dilemma’ to be overcome by Jesus. What does he mean by this?
The dilemma is 1) that humanity’s creation and existence depends on God and if we depart from Him we die and 2) it is unfitting that either God go back on this (His word) or that the creature He made to be His image in the world should be obliterated/die.
We noted in the Gospel of John that John does not include the “Institution Narrative” at the Last Supper/Passover (i.e., the “this is my body”…“new covenant”) because he assumes you have already read the other Gospels and know about it. Instead, John includes a long discourse from Jesus in Chapter 6 on the Bread of Life. We noted that Jesus tells that crowd that they have to “eat the Bread of Life” which is “his flesh.” What word did we say Jesus uses to clarify his meaning that doesn’t just mean “eat/consume” but “physically chew/crunch.”
Trogo
Which of these statements does not reflect the teaching of Lumen Gentium.
Being part of the Church is not necessary for salvation.
St. James is concerned in his letter about faith. Faith does not need to be lived out, he notes, but only needs to be held ‘spiritually’ in the heart.
False
Where did we say St. Athanasius is from?
Alexandria, Egypt
This was the Greek word for ‘flesh’ that Athanasius used when talking about the Incarnation.
