Feudal system
All land belongs to the sovereign or King
Allodial system
The system we currently use. In the allodial system, ordinary citizens are allowed to own land, and they can own it absolutely rather than at the will of a lord or sovereign
Estate
An interest in land that is where may become possessed. An estate may also be called a tenancy.
Two categories of estates
Freehold estates
Leasehold estates
Freehold estate
An interest in real property that has indeterminable duration. The holder such a state is usually referred to as the owner.
Leasehold estate
The holder has a limited duration. The holder is called a tenant.
Alienation
Process of transferring ownership of real property from one party to another
Land patent
Title to land transferred from the government to a private party with a land patent
