Lower Limb Muscles - Memorizing Flashcards
Gluteus medius origin
Between superior and inferior gluteal lines on lateral ilium
Sartorius action
LATERAL rotation, abduction, flexes femur and knee
Biceps femoris insertion
Head of fibula, lateral condyle of tibia
Adductor longus innervation
Obtrurator nerve
Semimembranosis action
MEDIAL rotation at thigh, extension of thigh, flexion of knee
Semitendinosis origin
Ischial tuberosity
Gracilis action
MEDIAL ROTATION of LEG, flexes leg, adducts thigh
Extensor hallucis longus insertion
Distal phalanx of big toe
Popliteal origin
lateral condyle of femur, lateral meniscus of knee
Extensor digitorum longus insertion
Middle and distal phalanges of toes 2-5
Adductor longus insertion
Linea aspera
Peroneus brevis insertion
Via a tendon that runs beneath LATERAL MALLEOLUS an inserts into 5th metatarsal
Semitendinosis action (rotation)
Medially rotates
Biceps femoris action
extends thigh, flexes at knee, laterally rotates leg
Extensor digitorum longus origin
Lateral condyle of tibia, proximal 1/3 of fibula, interosseous membrane
Peroneus longus insertion
Travels under the lateral foot, inserts on medial cuneiform and first metatarsal
Originates on pubis
Adductor longus
Plantaris origin
Posterior femur above lateral condyle
Originates on AIIS
Rectus femoris
Extensor hallucis longus origin
Shaft of fibula and interosseous membrane
Biceps femoris origin
Long head = ischial tuberosity and linea aspera, short head = distal femur
Posterior tibialis insertion
Runs beneath medial malleolus, inserts onto metatarsals 2-4 and tarsals
Action of extensor digitorum longus
Prime mover of toe extension and dorsiflexes foot
Flexor hallicus longus action
Plantar flexes and inverts foot, push off
Gluteus maximus origin
Dorsal ilium, sacrum, coccyx
Iliopsoas innervation
Femoral nerve (L2-L3)
Soleus origin
Superior tibia, fibula, interosseous membrane
Gluteus medius insertion
Via a tendon into the greater trochanter of the femur
Gracilis origin
Inferior and ischial ramus and body of pubis
Popliteal insertion
Medial tibia
