Lower limb muscles Flashcards
List the 5(kinda 6) muscles of the medial compartment of the thigh
Adductor longus Adductor brevis Adductor magnus Gracillis Obturator externus Kinda Pectineus (can also be considered anterior)
Proximal and distal attachments of adductor longus
Proximal: body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
Distal: middle third of linea aspera of femur
Innervation of adductor longus and brevis
Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Main action of Adductor longus
Hip adduction
Attachments of adductor brevis
Proximal: body and inferior ramus of pubis
Distal: pectineal line and proximal linea aspera of femur
Main action of adductor brevis
Adduction of hip joint, and some flexion
Attachments of Adductor Magnus
Proximal:
Adductor part = inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium
Hamstring part = ischial tuberosity
Distal:
Adductor part = gluteal ruberosity, linea aspera, and medial supracondylar line
Hamstring part = adductor tubercle of femur
Innervation of the adductor magnus
Adductor part = obturator nerve
Hamstring part = tibial part of sciatic nerve (L4)
What does the adductor magnus do?
Adduct the hip join (&flexes)
Hamstring part causes extension
Attachments of the gracillis
Proximal: body and inferior ramus of pubis
Distal: superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation of the gracillis
obturator nerve (L2, L3)
What does the gracillis do?
Adducts hip joint, flexes knee, and rotates the femur medially
Attachments of the obturator externus
Proximal: margins of obturator foramen and obtuator membrane
Distal: Trochanteric fossa of femur
How is the obturator externus innervated?
obturator nerve (L3, L4)
What does the obturator externus do?
Laterally rotates hip joint, pulls head of femur into acetabulum holding pelvis steady
