Lower limb anatomy Flashcards
What is the opening in the fascia lata which lies below and lateral to the pubic tubercle?
Saphenous hiatus
- filled w/loose CT called cribiform fascia
Purpose of the fascia lata
Encloses thigh
Separates thigh into 3 compartments, each with a muscle group, vessels and nerves
Boundaries of the femoral triangle
Lateral: medial border of sartorius Medial: medial border of adductor longus Anterior: fascia lata Posterior: iliopsoas, pectineus, adductor longus Superior: inguinal ligament Apex: continuous with adductor canal
Explain the femoral sheath
Surrounds femoral vessels & lymphatic below inguinal ligament
Lateral compartment: femoral artery
Middle compartment: femoral vein
Medial compartment: femoral canal
Contents of the femoral triangle
FFFFFDF Femoral nerve Femoral artery & branches Femoral vein & tributaries Femoral sheath Femoral canal Deep inguinal lymph nodes Fatty tissue
Boundaries of adductor canal
Anterior: adductor lamina & sartorius
Lateral: vastus medialis
Posteromedial: adductors longus & magmus
