Lower Limb 2 Flashcards
What is Melorheostosis
Irregular thickening of the cortex along one side of a bone or bones of one extremity
Appearance look like molten wax flowing down the side of a candle
Osteoarthritis at forefoot
- Most common at 1st MTP joint
- Osteophytes are usually at the dorsal medial surface of 1st metatarsal head.
- Hallux valgus deformity
Gout clinical features and radiographic features
clinical features
- males
- more than 40 yrs old
- MC in 1st MTP joint
Radio features
- soft tissue swelling
- tophi
- preserved articular space
- bony erosion (overhanging sign)
Fatigue and insufficiency fracture
Fatigue
- abnormal stresses on normal bone
Insufficiency
- normal stresses on abnormal bone
Stress fracture
- solid periosteal reaction progressing to callus formation in diaphyseal fractures
- linear sclerosis and corical thickening more common
T1 - low signal
T2 - high signal (soft tissue swelling)
Kohler’s DIsease
Avascular necrosis of navicular
- Patchy or homogenous sclerosis, collapse, fragmentation
- Joint space are preserved
Freiberg’s Disease
rare condition that primarily affects the second or third metatarsal (the long bones of the foot)
Radiologic features
- Articular cortex deformity
- Altered density (crescent sign)
- Joint space wider. Later degenerative happen become narrowed
- Metatarsal shaft
