Lower Leg Flashcards
How can the lower leg be divided?
Anterior, posterior, lateral compartment
What does the Anterior compartment consist of?
4 muscles that dorsi-flex and invert the foot
What is the anterior compartment innervated by?
deep fibular nerve - L4 and S2
Ant tibial artery for blood supply
What are the three muscles of the ant compartment
Extensor digitorum longus
Extensor hallicus longus
Tibial is anterior
What does the lateral compartment to and what is it’s innervation?
Eversion
Superficial fibular nerve
What are the two muscles of the lateral compartment?
Fibularis longus - everts and plantar flexes
Fiburlairs brevis - deeper and shorter
What is the post compartment of the legs consist of?
Superrficial and and deep compartment
Muscles plantar flex and invert foot
Blood supply: ant tibial artery
Nerve supply: tibial nerve
What are the muscles of the superficial compartment of the posterior leg compartment?
Gastrocnemius - plantar flex and flexion at knee joint
Soleus - plantar flex - sits deep
Plantar is - contribute to plantar flexion @ ankle join & flexion at the knee joint
What are the deep muscles and posterior compartment of the leg?
Popliteus - forms base of popliteal fossa, lateral rotation of femur relative to the tibia
Flexor digitorum longus -
