Lower GI Flashcards
Location of posterior chapman points for lower GI
In the triangular area from iliac crests up to the superior aspect of L2
What doesn’t stimulate chapman’s reflexes?
Colon cancer
Where are the post ganglionic sympathetics for the lower GI?
Inferior collateral ganglion
Symptoms of sympathetic hyperactivity of lower GI
Flatulence, abd distention, constipation, ileus
Parasympathetic inn. of right colon
Right vagus n.
Parasympathetic inn. of left colon and pelvis
Pelvic splanchnics
Pelvic splanchnics
S2-4
Symptoms of parasympathetic hyperactivity of lower GI
Diarrhea
Symptoms of decreased parasympathetic activity of lower GI
Constipation
Symptom of increased AND decreased parasympathetic activity of lower GI
IBS
What is the goal of OMT to lower GI paras?
Normalize nervous system outflow
Innervation of pelvic diaphragm
Pundenal n. (S2-4)
Stage I post op
Immediately post op
Consider hemodynamics and electrolyte imbalance
Decrease or absent bowel sounds
Tx: Inhibition of hypertonic paravertebral mm. in throacic spine
Indirect fascial release of diaphragm, thoracic inlet, and mid cervical spine (phrenic)
Stage II post op
Less neuromuscular splinting
Hemodynamics and electrolytes normalized
Bowel sounds present
Tx: Apply inhibition to paravertebral segment related to symp inn. of surgical site
Bilateral rib raising
Indirect fascial release at surgical site, throacic and sternal region, cervical paravertebral areas
Stage III post op
Pt ambulating
Oral intake better
Minimal neuromuscular splinting
Tx: Inhibition of paravertral mm. at site
Specific manipulation of segmental vertebral units
Pectoral traction with lymphatic and pedal pumps
