Deposition?
When rivers drop material (load) because they run out of energy.
Floodplain?
The flat land either side of a river. This is the natural area for water to spill on to when the river reaches the top of its banks.
Estuary?
A wide and deep feature also called the mouth of the river when it reaches the sea.
Alluvium?
The fine silt deposited by a river
River flood?
When a river is above normal levels and spills onto the floodplain.
Levees?
Raised banks along the course of a river in its lower course.
Mudflats?
Areas of mud exposed during the low tides
Delta?
This depositional landform is created when the river meets the sea, slows down, loses energy and drops material forming a triangular shaped feature.
River bluff?
A steep bank that is formed by river erosion on the outside of a meander.
