lower course Flashcards
What are the types of deltas?
• arcuate or fan shaped
• cuspate
• birds foot
what are arcuate/fan shaped deltas?
the land around the river mouth arches out into the sea and the river splits many times on the way to sea creating a fan effect.
what are cuspate deltas?
the land around the mouth of the rivers juts out arrow- like into the sea.
what are birds foot deltas?
the river spilts on the way to the sea each part of the river juts out into the sea rather like a birds foot.
what is the first step of a delta recipe?
as the river meets the sea it loses energy and thus this causes deposition. the heaviest load is dropped first forming the bottom set bed and the island are made up by the lightest load.
what is the second step of a delta recipe?
the deposition is further helped by salt particles by sticking on to the top set bed particles(light deposition) making it heavier which cause it to fall(flocculation)
what is the third step of a delta recipe ?
over time the sediment will build up it will block the river and the river will have no choice but to split and travel around the islands as distrubutaries
what is the fourth step of a delta recipe?
over time vegetation e.g plants will take root on islands
