Cupid Psyche
Psyche is hailed for her beauty, but is loathed by Venus. Venus orders Cupid to kill her but he falls in love with her. Cupid orders Psyche’s parents to send her away to a place where Cupid can test her love. Psyche’s sisters come and deceive her into looking at her lover. Cupid deserts Psyche, and Venus takes Psyche in to torture her. Psyche is sent to the underworld to fetch beauty in a box from Persephone and gets curious. She opens the box and falls in a deep sleep. Cupid comes back and saves Psyche because of his love. They get married in Olympus despite his mother and stay on Olympus. Psyche is granted immortality
Pyramus Thisbe
Separated by a wall, these lovers loved each other despite their parents disapproval. One night they planned to leave by the Tomb of St. Ninus. Thisbe comes but is attacked by a lion and leaves her bloodied and torn cloak behind. Pyramus comes, thinking his lover is dead kills himself. Thisbe comes back and kills herself. The blood of the lovers turned the mulberry fruit red.
Ceyx Alcyone
Ceyx went to see an oracle, but had to cross the ocean. His wife Alcyone begged to come but he left her waying he had to go alone. He gets killed by a hurricane and Juno pities Alcyone. Iris sends the message through the god of slumber’s son Morpheus. He shows Alcyone through her dream that her husband is dead. She goes out to see his body come ashore and is turned into a bird with her late husband
Baucis Philemon
Jupiter and Mercury disguise themselves and lowly people to test hospitality. The poorest couple allows them in and takes care for the people. Jupiter and Mercury gifted them with a tower to watch over and killed the rest of the unhospitable town. They died together in the trees of linden and oak
Daphne Apollo
Apollo saw Daphne in the woods and thought she was beautiful. She did not want to be married. He followed her but she fled. After refusing her love, Daphne was turned into a laurel tree by apollo
Hero Leander
Leander would swim to Hero every night from across a river guided by a lighthouse lit by Hero. Astorm blows out the fire and Leander drowns. Hero sees the body and kills herself
Pomona Vertumnus
Pomona was a nymph who only cared for gardening and would stay away from men. Vertumnus would think she is beautiful and spy on her. He disguised himself as an old woman to trick her and revealed his love for her. She saw his beauty and allowed him to garder her orchards with her
Glaucus Scylla
Glaucus was fishing when he saw his fish flopping into the sea. He ate a piece of grass and entered the ocean. He wasw created as a god of the sea and transformed into a mermaid. He fell in love with the nymph Scylla, but she rejected him. He went to Ciirce to ask for scylla to fall in love with him but Circe falls in love with him. She puts a potion in the water where Scylla bathes and Scylla turns into a monster, destroying anything in her reach with her anger and distress
Orpheus Euridice
Orpheus is a musician who could entranceanyone with his music. He married Euridice who died after the wedding. He went to the underworld to retrieve her but was not allowed to look at her until he reached the surface. At the last second, he turned and Euridice was pulled back into the underworld. He would play for love and was eventually killed by Maeads
Pygmalion Galatea
Pygnalion was a sculpter and fell in love with one of his statues. During the feast of Venus, he asked for his statue to come alive. He went home to find his statue alive and named her Galatea
Endynion Selene
Selene(the moon) loved Endymion and pulled him into a sleep where she could do what she pleased with him, but she was never happy
Alpheus Arethusa
Arethusa does not want men and is a huntress. After she is exhausted, she bathes in a cool river. Aplheus, god of the river, loves her and summons her. She runs and prays to Artemis who turns her into a spring of water and digs a tunnel to her holy ground. Alpheus follows and mixed his water with Arethusa
Atalanta Hippomenes
Atalanta was an avid hunter, wrester, etc. She announced that any man who could beat her in a foot race would win her hand in marriage. Hippomenes used golden apples to divert Atalanta from her path in the race and was married to Atalanta
Idas Marpessa
Idas took Marpessa as his bride. Apollo fell in love with Marpessa, but Ida dared to fight Apollo for his love. Zeus allowed Marpessa to choose who she wanted. Marpessa chose mortality because she believed that the god would not be faithful
