Q

How is love portrayed in the early parts of the play?

A

Love is portrayed to be depressing, this is as Romeo is in love with Rosaline (who doesn’t love him back). Makes the audience feel sorry for Romeo. Mercutio takes the piss out of the relationship, saying it in unreal and staged.
