What are the contents of the data folder
Notes.ini ID file bookmark.nsf names.nsf cache.ndk
The master configuration file for Lotus Notes. Holds all of the software’s current configuration
settings and preferences.
Notes.ini
A dump file that slows Lotus Notes down as it gets larger. The only file within the data folder
that is safe to delete without risk of causing harm to the client. Deleting it solves most slowness issues.
cach.ndk
2nd only in importance to the notes.ini file. Controls server connectivity and holds the user’s contacts
names.nsf
Controls the Lotus Notes workspace and all of its icons.
Desktop8.ndk
Controls all buttons, toolbars, menus and tabs within Notes. Grows in size as Notes gets
used. Renaming it allows a new one to be created, reducing its size and allowing better functionality.
bookmark.nsf
The primary authentication file. Holds the user’s password as well as their ability to enable Single
Sign-On.
