It makes the boys seem small and insignificant/ vunerable.

At first the boys are well spoken however their language changes along with the society and the hunters language seems to become more tribal/ animalistic.

- Used to be a school teacher ( claimed to know school boys with ‘awful precision’)
- He fought in WW2
- He was interested in pyscology
Explain three realisations Golding had from his experiences (of WW2)
- ‘discovered what one man could do to another’
- realised that the horrors he had witnessed were done by people who had come from a ‘tradition of civilisation’
- WW2 made him very pessimistic about human nature and he believed something similar could resurface at any time.

“Lord of the Flies” is a literal translation of the name of the biblical name Beelzebub, a powerful demon in hell sometimes thought to be the devil himself.
