Loose and dense Proper connective tissue Flashcards
3 types of loose connective tissue
1.areolar
2.adipose
3.reticular
Areolar- function, location
-mostly open space
-holds water and salt for surrounding tissues
-found under epithelium and around organs
Adipose
adipo- fat
-composed of fat cells
-has large vacuoles that contain fat/oil
-insulates and warms the body and provides nutrients to other cells
Reticular (Found where)
contains reticular fibers, which create a stiff framework that supports other cells
-found around the kidney, liver, the spleen, and lymph nodes, and bone marrow
3 types of dense connective tissue
- regular
- irregular
- elastic
Regular (dense tissue)
-collagen fibers are arranged in one direction
-provides “tensile strength” like a rope
- found in tendons and ligaments
Irregular (dense tissue)
-collagen is arranged in many directions
- provides strength in multiple directions
- found in capsules around ograns
Elastic (dense tissues)
- provides flexible cushioning
- found between vertebra and in arties
