Cause of Anorexia Nervosa

A
  • Being overweight –> social and individual aspects
  • Anorexia:
    1) Ego-psychlogical theories - not sure
    2) Family systems theories - anorexia is facilitated by overcontrolling families or being emotionally trapped
    3) Endocrinological theories - Contributed to by hormonal defects
    4) Sociocultural theories - Social norms that emphasize thinness

Muscle Dysmorphia (Bigorexia) - opposite of anorexia

  • Muscle Dysmorphia - disordered fixation on gaining body mass
  • Men with these insecurities are lead to be more aggressive towards men and women
  • Men are not supposed to care about how they look but of course they look at their body and are effected by it
    ↳ more men worried about balding, penis size(because of porn) etc
