changes in parental status:
lpf and matrifocal emerge as a result of separation and divorce.
this meant that women that divorced women were the biggest group of lone mothers. Additionally, women may choose to raise children alone as they are able to support their child without their fathers involvement. Courts usually give custody to mothers as they are viewed as being more nurturing and caring by nature. Additionally men are less likely to give up work to care 4 children.
What is the cycle of a lone-parent family
Duncan and Rogers found that less than 1/3 of children born into lone-parent households stayed in one throughout their childhood. This suggests LPH are not a permanent state.
