- anger- Emotive language and repetition show the narrator’s anger at the situation.
< he mentioned “ every blackening church” and “place wall”, suggests he specially angry at the people in power, who could do something to change things, but they are doing nothing.
*hopeless- the “mind- forged manacles” shows that the people themselves are also to blame, because they are not trying to help themselves, but they are just believing that this is their faith.
techniques
Repetition: “ mark in weakness, mark in woe” - emphasises feeling of blankness, despair affects everyone and there’s no relief from it.
oxymoron: “ marriage hearse” - links the happy image of marriage with death. suggest that everything has been destroyed.
