What is logical force?
How strong a statement is. How much commitment we are getting.
What is modality?
How certain it is that something will occur.
(Forsure, Probably, Chance)
What classifies as weak modality?
just above a 0% chance something is true. (may, could, might, can, occasionally)
POSSIBILITY
What classifies as moderate modality?
just above a 50% chance something is true.
(probably, likely, usually)
PROBABILITY
What classifies as strong modality?
100% chance somthing is true guarantee, actionable.
(will, must, definately, always, is/are, necessarily, do/ does)
NECESSITY
What is quantification?
How many things have a certain quality.
What classifies as weak quantification?
at least one
(some, a few, several, many, a significant number/ significant amount)
Read as: “some or most or maybe even all”
** If a statement by definition DOESN’T mean more than half, then, consider it equivalent to some”
How should you read “many, a significant number, a significant amount”
bs words making something seem more impressive than it really is.
What classifies as moderate quantification?
more than half
(most, majority, overhalf)
read as: most or maybe all
What classifies as strong quantification?
100%
(all, any, each, every)
Most v. The Most
Most: an absolute claim (stating an absolute claim) that over 50% of a group has a certain property.
