Logical Fallacies Deck 2 Flashcards
Fallacy Of Composition
This logical fallacy occurs when one attributes a property of some part of a thing to the thing as a whole.
Complex Question
This logical fallacy occurs when someone asks a question that presupposes the answer to another question that has not been established or accepted.
Fallacy Of Division
This logical fallacy occurs when one assumes that what is true of the whole is true of each constituent part.
Begging The Question
This logical fallacy occurs when a argument assumes the truth of its own conclusion within its premises, essentially using the conclusion to prove itself, creating a loop where no actual evidence is provided to support the claim.
Argument By Rhetorical Question
This fallacy occurs when someone uses a rhetorical question in an argument to manipulate the listener into accepting a conclusion without providing proper evidence, essentially trying to force agreement by implying the answer is obvious or undeniable, even if it isn’t.
False Appeal To Authority
This fallacy occurs when the writer uses the assumption that an expert in a particular field is right, even when that expert is talking about the field in which they have no expertise.
Hasty Generalization
This fallacy occurs when one reaches a conclusion before adequate evidence has been collected.
False Dichotomy
Logical fallacy in which the writer states that only two possible solution exist, when in fact, there are either alternatives that haven’t been brought up.
Appeal To Anonymous Authority
This logical fallacy occurs when an appeal to authority is made, but the authority is not named.
Appeal To Ignorance
This fallacy occurs when an idea that has not been proven to be false is taken as a basis for believing that it is actually true.
Ambiguity
Logical fallacy in which the writer presents an assertion that falsely relies on the use of a single term in a different sense.
Appeal To Nature
This logical fallacy occurs when the belief or suggestion is assumed that the “natural” is better than the “unnatural”.
