Logical Fallacies Flashcards
Fallacies
Common errors in reasoning that undermine the logic of an argument

Post hoc ergo propter hoc
Conclusion that assumes that if A occurred after B then B must have caused A

Begging the claim
Conclusion that the writer should prove is validated within the claim
Circular argument
Restates the argument rather than actually proving it
Either/or
Oversimplifies the argument by reducing it to only 2 sides
Ad hominem
Attack on the character of a person rather than their arguments or opinions
Ad populum
Emotional appeal that speaks to positive or negative concepts rather than the real issue at hand
