Red Herring
Arguer goes off on a tangent to distract the audience partway through an argument.
Post hoc
Assuming that because B comes after A, A caused B.
Reductio ad absurdum
Establish a contention by deriving an absurdity from it’s denial
Non sequitur
Conclusion does not follow from it’s premise.
Begging the question
Circular logic or circular reasoning
False Analogy
Attempts to compare two things that are not enough alike for that assumption to be sound.
Either or/ If then
Assuming there are only two sides to an issue, ignoring all alternative viewpoints.
Hasty Generalization
Making an assumption about a whole group of cases based on a sample that is inadequate.
Slippery Slope
The arguer claims that a chain reaction with dire consequences will take place, but there’s not enough evidence for that assumption.
Appeal to authority
Attempting to use an authority that does not apply to the topic
