Logic Games Flashcards
Formal logic
most or all of the constraints are if-then statements
Ex: If Carrie does not make dinner, then Paxton will make dinner.
Sequencing
the constraints give you the relative order, or sequence, of the variables
Ex: Carrie turns in her test before Paxton does.
Linear
the constraints determine places on a linear continuum in which the variables can go
Ex: the fact pattern of a linear game may ask you to place 6 people in 6 time slots
Complex
another version of linear, except that the games take place in two dimensions
Ex: may ask you to place 8 people in 4 time slots, with a male/female pair in each
Grouping
you are asked to place the variables into a number of groups
Ex: may ask you to place 6 people into 2 groups of 3
Mapping
you are asked to draw diagrams that correspond to real-world situations
Ex: Six houses, numbered 1 to 6, are on Wavy Oak Street, there on the north side and three on the south side.
Sequencing Rule
A arrives before B
A < B
Box Rule
A arrives immediately before B
AB
Switching Box Rule
A is next to B
[BA]
[AB]
No-Box Rule
A is not immediately before B
A/B
Switching No-Box Rule
A is not next to B
[A/B]
[B/A]
Expanded Box Rule
A arrives two hours before B
A_B
Switching Expanded Box Rule
Two people arrive between A and B
A_ _ B
B _ _ A `
Sufficient conditions
are conditional. This part usually begins with if and is placed on the left in diagramming
Necessary conditions
are requirements. This part usually begins with then and is placed on the right in diagramming
