Locomotion And Movement Flashcards
How is pseudopodia or false feet formed
Due to streaming of protoplasm or cytoplasm
Which portray pseudopodial/ameoboidal movement
Leucocytes, macrophage, amoeba
Where in human body is ciliary movement used
● In oviduct- passage of ova
● In trache- removes dust particles
Where is flagellar movement used
◇ Swimming of spermatozoa
◇ Maintenance of water current (in canal system) of sponges
◇ Locomotion of protozoans like euglena
Function of
1. Tentacles in Hydra
2. Cilia in Paramoecium
3. Pseudopodia in amoeba
Capturing its prey as well as for locomotion
Difference between locomotion and movement
○ Locomotion is the movement of an individual from one place to another.
○ Movement is a change in posture or position
○ All locomotions are movement, but all movements are not locomotion
From which germ layer is muscle developed
Mesoderm
The specialized cells in the muscular tissue-
Myocytes- These cells are bound together by connective tissue and form muscular tissue.
Number of muscles in the human body is
639 muscles (40-50% of body weight)
Unique properties of muscles
Excitability, Elasticity, Extensibility, Contractibility
What is elasticity and how much can a myocyte contract
The property of shortening and then returning to relaxed state of the muscle fibre
Myocytes can shorten by 1/3 to 1/2 of their length
Describe the T.S of a muscle:
i) Epimysium
ii) Fasciculi
iii) Perimysium
iv) Endomysium
v) Fascia
■ A muscle is covered by a sheath of tissue called 𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒖𝒎.
■ Inside the epimysium, a muscle has many muscle fibres arranged in bundles called 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒊 (singular-fasciculus or fascicle).
■ Each fasciculus is surrounded by a sheath of connective tissue called 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒖𝒎.
■ The muscle fibres are parallel to each other in the fasciculus and surrounded by a connective tissue called 𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒎𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒖𝒎.
■ The muscle bundles are further bound together by a common collagenous sheath of connective tissue called 𝒇𝒂𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒂.
What is Sarcolemma
The sarcolemma also called the myolemma, is the cell membrane surrounding a skeletal muscle fiber or a cardiomyocyte.
What is a tendon
The two ends of muscles are attached to the bone with the help of an inelastic connective tissue- tendon. (One end of the muscle is attached to fixed or less movable bone and the other end is attached to the more movable bone)
Skeletal muscle or striped or striated or voluntary muscles:
