Q

Why did the location of the earthquake effect the management?

A

The location affected the effective management and response because landslides wiped out the regions roads, due to this, the infrastructure was damaged which hampered the Kashmir’s emergency services to respond accordingly and effectively to modify the loss of the disaster

Q

What role did GNP have for Pakistan?

A

GDP per capita of Pakistan in 2005 was $714.04 which meant that locals had insufficient purchasing power parity, so many locals in the Bakalot area had to live on unstable terrain as opposed to flat terrain which further decreases the likelihood that direct aid can be distributed to the most affected due to the fact the most affected are the most isolated and have very few alternatives

Q

Why were there few causalities?

A

This is because the geographical location of Iceland had river channels which were made larger so that the water would flow faster as Icelandic Meteorological Office knew that a jokulhlaup, glacial runoff, would occur as it had a peak flow of about 2000 to 3,000 m3/s. This widening of the river channels enabled them to store at least 5000m3/s of water in the event of a severe subglacial eruption which would trigger extensive geothermal heating of the jokulhlaup, which could lead to further melting of the jokulhlaup creating a positive feedback loop. As a result, this was effective in diverting surface water away from human populations in Iceland. This is therefore indicative of a modifying the loss approach and the modifying the vulnerability shown in figure 1 in stage 2 and 5 respectively.
