Q

Motor cortex function

A
  • Planning, control and execution of voluntary movement
  • Sends signals to muscles in body
  • Diff regions control diff parts of body - logically organised eg foot control next to leg control

14
Q

Somato- sensory cortex function

A
  • Receives sensory information from skin receptors all over body
  • Responsible for producing sensations to do with pressure, touch, pain and temperature
  • Some areas have more dedication from it to them than others eg finger tips and lips

15
Q

Visual cortex function

A
  • Receives visual info from retina via optic nerve and thalamus (relay station)
  • Responsible for processing visual input

16
Q

Auditory cortex function

A
  • Concerned with hearing

- Recognising sounds and analyses speech based information

17
Q

Broca’s area function

A
  • Responsible for language production

- Damage causes broca’s aphasia (limits ability to produce fluent language)

18
Q

Wernickes area function

A
  • Responsible for language comprehension

- Damage causes loss of ability to understand written and spoken language
